These ammunition storage cases are indicative of tank deployment in a firefight. The ammunition case was assessed to have stored the 120mm armour penetrating round. The nomenclature "APFSDS-T" printed on the container is an acronym for Armour Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot - Tracer. This type of ammunition typically consists of a long thin dart-like penetrator rod with a pointed end & stabilising fins, and often made of dense metal (E.g. Tungsten, depleted uranium). The tracer element burns brightly as the projectile travels towards the target as a form of visual indication of the ammunition flight path. This ammunition type is frequently used against armoured targets by focusing a high amount of pressure on a very small point. When impacted at extremely high speeds & pressure, armoured steel begins to behave in a fluid-like manner, allowing the projectile to penetrate. As the penetrator rod is much smaller in diameter as compared to the weapon barrel, it uses a supporting device called a "sabot" to centre the projectile within the weapon barrel, as well as trapping propellant gases during firing. Once the projectile has left the barrel, the "sabot" will typically split apart from air resistance and fall away, leaving the projectile free to travel at high speed towards the target.
