Description¹:

This explosive main charge (wrapped in blue plastic) was part of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), and was frequently incorporated into custom-sewn pouches & belts that were used for suicide bombing purposes. Supplementary fragmentation is frequently added to the explosive main charge to increase it's lethality, such as metal hexagon nuts in this instance. The long & narrow shape of this explosive main charge was designed to ensure a snug fit against the curvature of the body, further aiding concealment. Hand grenade fuzes were frequently used as the initiator for these type of explosive devices. In the background are pre-made IED switches with various functions. They were frequently manufactured in a few centralised locations in "kit" form, and supplied with basic instructions for rapid deployment by untrained personnel.
