Description¹:

An improvised electronic component manufactured for incorporation into IEDs (Improvised explosive devices). This component was assessed to be either an electronic switch, or a receiver for electronic signals. The twin PP3 (or 9V battery) connectors suggest that this component may have been designed to be deployed for extended periods of time, such as a receiver for a concealed IED. The blue shrink tubing, as well as hot glue sealing, was assessed to have been incorporated to provide environmental protection for the circuit board. The condition in which these switches were recovered suggest that they were being mass produced for subsequent incorporation into IEDs.
