Uncontrolled ordnance fuzes are often the cause of many injuries & fatalities as they typically do not resemble unexploded bombs when found on their own. The intricate parts, engravings, coloured coatings and wide variety of shapes & sizes often attract the attention of curious people. (Children being the most vulnerable) Though the explosive content contained in fuzes are relatively low, they are highly sensitive to impact & heat from people attempting to cut, drill, and disassemble them. Despite ammunition fuzing typically having built-in safety devices, any external damage and/or prolonged exposure to the environment can cause these safety devices to degrade and malfunction.
