Many of these improvised munitions were designed to be deployed from commercial off the shelf UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or popularly called "drones"). These improvised munitions were frequently manufactured in captured plastic molding companies for illicit use. Variations of these UAV delivered improvised munitions have been reported to include tail fin units attached to hand grenades, as well as embedding projected grenades into plastic housings with fins to add stability when released from height.
